Bruce Melvin Conklin, 83, passed away at his home on April 28, 2024. Bruce was born on July 18,1940 in Hickory, NC to his parents David and Nettie Conklin, who precede him in death.
Bruce led a remarkable life as the owner and operator of Tarheel Roofing for over 40 years, where he displayed unwavering dedication and skill in his craft. His commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Apart from his successful career, Bruce proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, showcasing his patriotism and bravery in defense of his country. His military service reflected his selflessness and courage, traits that defined his character throughout his life.
Beyond his professional and military achievements, Bruce found immense joy in simple pleasures. He had a passion for golf and NASCAR, finding solace in the thrill of the sport. One of Bruce's proudest accomplishments was being a devoted father to his beloved daughter Tracey. His unconditional love and support shaped her into the person she is today. Above all else, Bruce treasured moments spent with his family at the beach, immersing himself in the sun, sand, and laughter shared with those he loved most.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Proffitt Conklin; daughter, Tracey Saunders and her husband Robert; nephew who was like a son, Roger Lee Proffitt and his wife Jennifer; great nephew, Roger Proffitt Jr.; great niece, Ashley Proffitt; brother-in-law, Don Wayne Proffitt; as well as his best friend, Rick Wolfe.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM at Alamance Memorial Park with Pastor Darrell Massey officiating.
