Bruce Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iowa Cremation - Cedar Rapids on Aug. 23, 2024.
Bruce was born July 19, 1954, in Dubuque, IA to Charlene and Carl Davis. On August 19, 2024, in Waterloo, IA surrounded by love he took his last breath and lost his battle with Dementia.
Bruce graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1972 where he was a part of the wrestling team.
On August 18, 1973, he married the love of his life Cathy Wallig spending 51 amazing years together. Bruce loved Cathy and their two children Jason and Nikki fiercely. He was their biggest supporter.
To know Bruce was to know family. It didn't matter if you were one of his many union brothers and sisters, which was a hat that he proudly wore in his 42 years at John Deere. He loved fighting for the people, the middle-class worker. Even if you were on the "other side of the table", he would fight for you, and you were his family.
You were part of Bruce's family at the Boys & Girls club, whether as a mentor or your coach It didn't matter. Bruce even stepped up to coach Jason in Soccer, a sport he admittedly knew nothing about, just because they needed a coach. His love of coaching also spread to the Special Olympics where he coached and mentored for years. He was a true leader and every one of you were family.
If you were on the river and Bruce and Cathy pulled in next to you on the beach, you were family. It didn't matter if you needed a tow, some gas, a beer, bait or just someone to enjoy the Mississippi with. If you were standing in line, anywhere in the world from Walmart to Hawaii, not only did he always seem to know someone, and if he didn't, and there were just a few seconds to strike up a quick conversation he did, and you were family.
Bruce was always ready to help his brothers and sisters. Family get togethers were filled with love and laughter! Best of all, if you were part of his immediate family, you always knew that Bruce would be there. His wife Cathy, his children Jason and Nikki, his grandchildren Cobie, Grace and Hank and even his son and daughter-in-law Sean & Kristin all knew that the kitchen table was an open place to laugh and talk about anything.
Please join us this Thursday August 29th from 3-7pm at Happy's in Dubuque to celebrate a man that impacted everyone he met. Join us to laugh or cry. Join us to tell stories or learn some new ones.
Bruce is survived by his wife Cathy, Son Jason (Kristin) Davis, Daughter Nikki (Sean) Morrissey. His Grandkids: Cobie (Hanna) Morrissey and Grace & Hank Davis. His brothers: Jeff (Lori) Davis, David (Gae) Davis, Roger (Jolene) Schoenberger and Phillip (Sandy) Schoenberger. His sisters Pam and Linda Davis, his brother -in-law Steve (Fran) Wallig and His Step-Mom Lynn Davis.
He was proceeded in death by both his parents, his brother Carly, and both His in-laws Ed and Dolly Wallig.
The world got a little dimmer when Bruce was called back home, but thanks to him, we all carry a little more light in our lives.
