Bruce Horgen of Argyle, MN, left his body behind and sought Valhalla, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. He was 70 years old.
Bruce was born on July 19, 1954 in Warren to Clarence and Junice (Paulson) Horgen. He graduated from Warren high school, farmed a lot, did a little of this and that, and raised a bit of hell before going to back to school and receiving his degree in Agronomy from the University of Minnesota Crookston. He was married the first time to Susan (1974) and the second time to Marlene (2013). His "furbabies," Bailie and Bella, were so important to him. The two were his constant companions and you'd often see them driving around town or in the semi with Bruce when hauling grain for the McFarlands or Petersons. Only once did they go on drive without him, disengaging the brake and rolling into the ditch by the hospital. Good times.
Farming was in his blood you might say, and Bruce enjoyed working in the fields alongside his Dad and brothers, with whom he was very close. They'd go hunting and fishing as often as they could and, in these later years, the brothers enjoyed pretending to hunt- riding along for the socializing alone. With his MS creeping up on him, Bruce was grateful to live independently much longer than he thought possible with the help of his children, nieces, and nephews, even managing to get on the Harley one last time. In 2022, Bruce found his daughter whose mother had given her up for adoption almost 50 years prior. He ferociously loved all of his kids alike: his "long lost daughter" fitting right in.
He will be mourned by his children, Barbie Horgen, Jen Horgen-Ovick, Brandon Horgen, and Ben Horgen; grandchildren, Brandi (and her children), Zander, and Paxton; sisters, Julie and Janet; brothers, Jim (Teri) and Dennis (Nancy); his canine furbabies, Bailie and Bella; and about a bazillion nieces and nephews.
There to meet him on the other side are his folks, Clarence and Junice; sister, Judy; half-brothers, Clifford and David; half-sister, Doris; and his granddaughter, Jazlynn.
Per his request, he was cremated with his favorite hat on, and no funeral is to be held.
You're welcome to raise a glass in his memory from time to time.
The Family will be laying him to rest in the spring, alongside his forefathers, in McCrea Lutheran Cemetery, Marshall County, MN.
