Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 21st, at Parkway Funeral Home in Bismarck. A Prayer service will begin at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 22, at Evangel's East Auditorium, Bismarck, ND.
Bruce Kim Johnson was born on January 27, 1955, to Melford and Jeannette (Tonneson) Johnson in Crosby, ND. He was raised on the farm and educated in Alamo, ND, graduating from Alamo High School in 1973. He was involved in high school sports and activities. Following graduation, Bruce attended the University of North Dakota and later graduated from Lake Region Community College with a degree in Carpentry.
Bruce married Janet Steele in 1982, and to this union, three children were born: Kristy, Amy, and Justin. He was an amazing father who taught many life lessons and put in the effort to give his children a wonderful childhood. He would arrange special excursions for each one of his kids and called them "super dates." Every adventure was memorable, including fishing, train rides, and trail rides.
For many years, Bruce owned Rocky Mountain Siding and Windows in Hamilton, Montana. An opportunity to teach prompted a move to Williston where he taught two school years at Williston State College. Teaching and helping others came naturally to Bruce. During this time, he guided his students along as they remodeled a house together. Bruce's talents as a contractor shone brightly in the construction industry, where he earned respect and for his meticulous work. He found great joy in mentoring others and teaching them how to do quality work with care and integrity. Beyond his professional achievements, Bruce will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the laughter he brought into the lives of those around him.
In 2014, he married the love of his life, Lynelle (Losing) McKenzie, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in love and faith. In the Fall 2022, Bruce and Lynelle made their home in Bismarck, where he continued doing what he loved-remodeling their home, building a back patio and waterfall, and planting countless flowers.
Bruce loved spending time in the outdoors. Whether it be hunting, fishing or appreciating nature – he was amazed at God's creation. He was especially fascinated by birds and took great pleasure in observing them. Earlier in life, Bruce raised homing pigeons and developed an extensive knowledge and appreciation for bird life, which he eagerly shared with others.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Lynelle; children, Kristy (Luke) Ellis (Michael, Porter, and Graham), and Amy Johnson; step-children, Mason McKenzie and Emily (Matt) Brooks; and siblings, Terry Johnson, Marge (Duane) Gulbranson, Melanie (Allen) Bowker and Linda (Donovan) Haugland, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Justin; and his parents.
