Bruce Kogan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, at the age of 80. He leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and service that touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a man who gave freely of himself, whether through his professional contributions, his volunteer work, or the countless ways that he supported his family and friends.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Jaime (Klinger) Kogan. He is also survived by his two sons, Mark (Jennifer) and Matthew (Marisa); grandchildren Olivia, Danielle, Henry, and Lia; brother John (Ann), sisters Nan, Jill (Michael), and Victoria (Roger); sisters-in-law Stacey (Jeff), and Lisa (Scott), brother-in-law Craig (Robin); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Born on November 19, 1944 in New York, NY, Bruce was the third of five children of Robert and Jeanne Kogan. He spent his youth exploring New York City parks and playing sports with a tight-knit group of friends.
After attending the Bronx High School of Science, Bruce received his BA in Philosophy from Syracuse University. He then went on to obtain his JD from the Dickinson School of Law and an LLM in Taxation from Georgetown Law. He began his legal career as an appellate tax attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, and later started a private law practice in
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
In the early 1980s, Bruce shifted his focus to academia where he spent the rest of his career being a talented legal educator, respected by his colleagues and admired by his students. After serving as a tenured Associate Professor of Law at Widener University School of Law, Bruce went on to become one of the co-founders of the law school at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI, where for 26 years he was a dedicated professor as well as two-time interim dean, and from which he received an honorary Doctor of Law Degree upon his retirement. He also served as a visiting professor at the University of Pittsburgh, University of Rhode Island, Villanova University, and Dickinson College schools of law.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bruce was a man of many passions. A British car enthusiast and lover of anything motorized, he found joy in "talking shop" with other classic car club members. He loved motoring around in his green MG convertible on a nice day with the top down. He was a fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, and had a love of movies (his favorite being Bullitt). He also was a true friend of animals, who supported many animal charities throughout his life.
Bruce always gave generously of his time and talents to his community. He was the co-founder of the first non-profit association for mediators in Rhode Island. His dedication to civic engagement reflected his belief in the importance of the local community. He served on the Bristol Zoning Board, the Chester County Water Resources Authority, and most recently was president of his neighborhood Home Owners' Association.
Above all, Bruce will be remembered for his remarkable generosity, sharp intellect, and dedication to his family and those around him.
A private service will be held to honor Bruce's life. Donations may be made in Bruce's memory to Speranza Animal Rescue (https://speranzarescue.org/donate), or to your local animal shelter.
Shiva will be held at the residence of Mr. Mark and Dr. Jennifer Kogan in Huntingdon Valley, PA on Saturday, August 30th at 7:00pm, and Sunday, August 31st at 4:00pm.
