Nathaniel Murray Jr.

Nathaniel Murray, Jr., 75, of Harrisburg, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at home.

He was born at home on July 30, 1950 in Newtonville, NJ to the late Nathaniel Murray, Sr. and Grace (Franklin) Murray.

Nate graduated 1972 from of Southwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, where he had a full athletic scholarship as a football player.

He was retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where he was a Director of Training and Staff Development.

Nate enjoyed watching TV, was a Star Trek aficionado, was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies. Most of all Nate will be remembered as a devoted family man.

Surviving is his wife and love of his life, Merlene S. (Carty) Murray, a son, Shawn B. Murray of Harrisburg, 3 daughters; Beverly Brown Billings and her husband, Thomas Billings of Salisbury, NC, Lydia Brown of Harrisburg, Koren Scates and her husband, Keylin Scates of Harrisburg, a sister, Cheryl McCune of Manchester, TN, 7 grandchildren; Davon Bailey, Rashaun Bailey, Chante (Bailey) Rodriguez and her husband, Timothy, Vanity Lewis, Maygan Lewis, Christian Scates, Demitrius Murray, as well as a host of family and friends that loved him very much. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Raygan Lewis and a sister, Nathalie Murray.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
