In Loving Memory of Bruce Mitchell (1947–2025)

Born in Jersey City, NJ • Resided in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ

Bruce Mitchell, a man of warmth, wit, and wonder, passed peacefully on October 24, 2025, at age 78. Born in Jersey City and settled in the coastal charm of Point Pleasant Beach, Bruce lived a life as rich and layered as the breads he baked and the stories he told. His rich, silky chocolate ganache made every family gathering a wonderful time of warmth and love-a signature dessert that spoke of his generosity and joy.

A master baker by trade and a king crab fisherman by adventure, Bruce's hands knew both the heat of the oven and the icy grip of Alaskan waters. In the 1970s, he lent his craft to the Alaskan Pipeline, feeding crews with hearty loaves and hearty laughter. His tales from that rugged frontier were as vivid as the northern lights, and he shared them with the ease of a seasoned storyteller.

Bruce was an avid reader, a lover of language, and a conversationalist who could speak on nearly any subject with grace and insight. Whether discussing literature, history, or the latest NY Giants game, he brought curiosity and charm to every exchange. His passion for sports-especially his beloved Giants-was matched only by his passion for people.

He is survived by his devoted siblings: Peggy Puzzo, Sue Gilroy, Mary Lou Pickowicz, and Michael Mitchell, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness, humor, and resilience. Bruce was predeceased by his beloved sister, Dorothy Caruso, whose memory he cherished deeply.

Bruce's life was a mosaic of grit and grace, of quiet moments and bold journeys. He taught us that a well-lived life is not measured in accolades, but in the warmth we leave behind.

"Let the winds of Alaska carry your spirit, Bruce. You were one of a kind."
