Bruce Howell Newcomb, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025 at her home in
Batesville, MS.
Funeral services will be 1 :00 P.M. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Batesville, MS with the interment to follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning beginning at 11 :30 A.M. at the church.
Bruce was born on July 24, 1933 in Batesville, MS to the late William Clifton (Cliff) Howell and Evie Jim Oliphant Howell. She graduated high school from Batesville High School in 1951.She met the love of her life Hurston Newcomb (to whom she was married for 65 years) on a blind date and they were married in 1955. They moved to Texas where they began their family and she began her career. Through the years she worked as the Executive Secretary for Headrick Petroleum in Houston, Texas, General Dynamics in Waco, Texas and at the MSU Extension Office in Starkville, MS. In 1967, they purchased a farm in the Mount Olivet Community and in 1968 moved back to Batesville. She worked for Farmers Home Administration, until her retirement, where she helped numerous people to achieve their dream of owning a home. She loved growing flowers in her yard. The blooms she cultivated were a reflection of her heart,much like the love she shared with those around her. She loved caring for God's creatures which was evidenced by the care of her pets, the birds that returned yearly to her yard, and the livestock on her farm. She enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables in the garden with her family and was never selfish about sharing her bounty with others. She loved cooking, canning and spendingtime with her family. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with themespecially her granddaughters Anna and Jennifer and her great-granddaughter Louise. She was a woman of remarkable character. She lived steadfast by her faith, which served as her guidinglight and an inspiration for all who knew her.
Bruce's family includes her beloved son, Harold Newcomb (Lisa), her granddaughters, Anna McLemore (Jay) and Jennifer Wilson, and her great-granddaughter, Louise Grace McLemore, who will carry forth her legacy of love and resilience.She was preceded in death by her son, Hurston L Newcomb Jr, her husband, Hurston Newcomb Sr, her sister Marcella Fletcher and her parents Cliff and Evie Jim Howell.
