I still talk about Dr. Samuels. I talk about how frightened I was when I first went to see him because my hands were locked and painful. I had a thirty-minute appointment, but he spent well over an hour with me. He promised he could take care of it and would make me feel better in three days or less. Dr. Samuels was gentle, caring and kept his promise. He was brilliant, incredibly kind, and simply a gift to all of us.
Bless his family. Bless those who worked with him and helped him to take care of us. He made our lives -- my life -- so much better. My life is better because of him.

All of time may pass, and Dr. Samuels will forever be missed. He was an incredible physician that never overlooked the fact that you were not just a patient, but a person.
I still think of him often. He is SO missed, by SO many.
And he ALWAYS will be.

I was saddened to hear about Bruce's recent death. We were classmates (59) at Wilmington Friends in HS. We were teammates on football and basketball teams, where on the latter, Sammy' excelled at guard. We lost track for moreover than a decade.
Imagine my shock one morning when I was taking my nephrolgy boards when I heard behind me: Billy, how the heck are you?' Bruce was taking his rheumatology boards and to prevent cheating on the multiple choices, they put all of us in a hodgepodge. I was so glad to hear that we both jumped over the hurdle.

I knew Bruce many many years ago when we were growing up together in Wilmington. Sadly, we didn't stay in touch after high school; I remember Bruce as a thoughtful, serious boy who was destined it seemed to live a productive life. I'm sorry to hear of his passing at what seems now a relatively young age. My condolences to anyone from his family who happens to read this . dear linda, we have never met, but bruce was a lifelong friend of my husband allan cohen. he was an usher in our wedding in 1964 in Wilmington, DE. allan passed away suddenly in 2011, I don't know if bruce knew of this. we visited bruce and patty many, many years ago in new Hampshire and we knew the girls when they were very young.bruce was a wonderful friend to both of us and I am so sorry for your loss.as time goes by everyone is so busy it is hard to keep up with friends that live far away, but bruce will always be in my heart...hopefully he will find allan and a lifelong friendship will continue.

Dr. Sam you saved my life many years ago. I was in one of your drug studies for 5 years. You showed me compasion, hope (when I thought there was none), knowledge , as you did to all your patients you helped. You will forever be part of my soul for all you did for me. Although I stopped treating with Dr Samuels several years when he was the go to doc at Strafford Medical Associates, it seems like yesterday when our treatment sessions were also friendly get-together. His medical skills kept my arthritis in check with the usual remedies and meds; but what I'll never forget is the six-week acupuncture treatment program which he kind of performed under the table. He had learned this ancient art of treatment while stationed in China during his military days but was not really licensed to utilize it back in then in the 1970's when his office was in that little brick building next to WD Hospital. He was sure it was the only cure for my cpndition and he was absolutely right, as I never had that bursitis pain again. And he never charged me a penny. He was just happy that I agreed to let him give me the needles and hoped it would work. He was a joy to chat with and I always will remember him. Thanks, Dr Bruce. You are sorely missed. My condolences to his spouse and family.

I am saddened to learn of Dr. Samuels' passing. He was doctor to my father thirty years ago. During that time, my dad developed acute respiratory distress, and was hospitalized for a long period of time. Dr. Samuels orchestrated lines of treatments and doctors.My father lived to be 94 years old! Both of my parents held Dr. Samuels, deservedly, in highest esteem; an exemplary man of medicine.

Dr. Samuels was my doctor for 34 years and he took such good care of me and kept me mobile. He always listened and it was a very sad day when he retired. Sincere condolences to Linda all his family.

I heard this terribly sad news today. To Linda, and all of his family, from my heart, I am just so incredibly sad, to hear this. Dr. Samuels, set the bar. He truly did. You were never a number, or just a patient, you were a person. I had been so dreadfully sick, and mistreated sadly by the medical community. Dr. Samuels, intently listened, to my every word, and he diagnosed me, and literally saved my life. Dr. Samuels, you set a beautiful example. We all loved you. You will be missed. The day you retired was one of the saddest days of my life. God Bless, and I pray for strength for everyone in your family that loves you.

Dr. Sam was my doctor for many years and he literally saved my life. He also gave my niece an additional 20 years of life that she never would have had if not for his determination to cure her extremely complicated medical condition.
Fly high, Dr. Sam. We were blessed to have you in our lives and now that your suffering is done, it is your turn to rest.

To Dr Samuels family I am so sorry for your loss. I was a patient of his for many years and appreciated how he cared for me as a patient and always was helpful. I always left his office feeling better because he listened and along with that, we had a good laugh with his good sense of humor. I'm sorry to hear of Dr. Samuels' passing. I haven't seen him in several years, but I will always remember him as a loving, brilliant, compassionate person. When I first met him, my fingers wouldn't bend and movement was painful. I was frightened and hurting. With a soft voice and smile, he promised me I'd feel much better in three days. I did! He truly was a special physician, a special person. I'm grateful to have known him.
