In Loving Memory of Bruce Alan Speer
January 6, 1949 – November 10, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Bruce Alan Speer on November 10, 2024, at the age of 75. Bruce was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness and love left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Bruce was born on January 6, 1949, to Howard and Marie Speer. He lived in Brownsdale, MN, and attended school in Hayfield, MN. In 1968, Bruce married the love of his life, Linda. It was love at first kiss, which they often and still reminisced about throughout their lives. Together, they built a life rooted in family, devotion, and love. Bruce proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970, demonstrating courage and commitment. Bruce and Linda were members of the St. Croix Valley Chapter 331, where they enjoyed participating in and coordinating numerous events.
After his military service, Bruce pursued a career in HVAC. His hard work and perseverance led him to found and operate his own business, B.A.S. Heating and Cooling, which he managed until his well-earned retirement.
As an avid outdoorsman, Bruce had a deep love for gardening, hunting, and fishing, particularly with his family. Every moment spent with his loved ones was precious to him, and his dedication to his family was evident in the countless ways he showed his love and support each day. It's qualities like these that keep us aware of who we are and what we can give to life.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Speer, and his three daughters: Kristine Nelson (Brett) of Palm Bay, FL; Kari Speer of Austin, MN; and Julie Lee (Todd) of New Richmond, WI. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Blake Knoll, Ryan Nelson, Tina Richter, Tyler Dornfeld, Trey Schaeffer, Kristina Speer, and Katie Speer; and his great-grandchildren, Jasper, Jade, Logan, and Kevin. He is also survived by his siblings, Mavis Harvey, Myron Speer, Gary Speer (Betty), Loren Speer (Rose), Cheryl Riles and many nieces and nephews. Special friends Daryl and Linda Gerber, Dan Blemke and Mike Olson.
Bruce's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends as a legacy of love, kindness, perseverance, and strength. His presence will be profoundly missed, but the warmth of his spirit and the joy he brought to those around him will remain a source of comfort.
May he rest in peace, knowing his life was well-lived and deeply cherished.
An Honorable Service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on November 22 at 9:45 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at the American Legion in Somerset, WI, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
