Obituary and Eulogy
Bruce F. Storch, loving son, brother, nephew, cousin, died January 8, 2008. Memorial service was held January 10, 2008 at Gutterman Warheit in Boca Raton.…….In memory of Bruce Foster Storch, September 7, 1966 - January 8, 2008
Bruce had a dream from the time he was in high school to attend and graduate from the University of Florida. For years this seemed like an “impossible dream”, with many stumbling blocks in the road, but finally, on a frigid day in Gainesville, December 2003, Bruce received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.
A major goal for Bruce was to gain employment in his field of study, Commercial Recreation. This, again, seemed to be another “impossible dream,” but thanks to the help of a friend, he began a supported employment program, which led to his getting a part-time job at Boca Dunes. This was finally going to be a start for Bruce.
Family was all-important to Bruce. He was a caring, loving son, brother, grandson, uncle, godfather, and nephew. Bruce was proud to stand up at his sister’s wedding and to share a wedding dance with her. Bruce was godfather to his older nephew Matt, and had great timing when Matt was born. He had planned a visit up to Emily and Alan, and was at the hospital when Matt was just a few hours old. Bruce loved his nephews Matt and Danny, who remember racing radio-controlled cars with Uncle Bruce.
A highlight each week was our dinners together. He also enjoyed attending auto shows and auctions with Fred, and just “hanging out” with us.
Besides family and friends, Bruce loved and was totally devoted to his lovable pet pug, Mugsy, who was totally devoted to Bruce. He had many people who loved and cared about him and helped to guide him with his schooling and efforts to seek employment. I don’t want to start mentioning names since I don’t want to take the chance of forgetting anyone.
Bruce was fun-loving, and had a zest for life. One thing that was really important to him was to spend New Year’s Eve in Times Square. He managed to do this with the help of his cousin, Arthur Storch, for the big event, Y2K, and we were thrilled to actually see him on television!
As a child, Bruce, along with cousin Shawn, loved to torment his sister by calling her “Em.” He always managed to get the desired reaction out of her. As they became adults, he continued to call her “Em,” but she finally grew to love this nickname.
Once a year, one of the issues we had to deal with was the fact that Bruce graduated from the University of Florida and Emily graduated from Florida State. Needless to say, we were “torn” about which football team to root for, and had to try and stay neutral. Bruce and Emily thoroughly enjoyed this friendly rivalry.
Bruce never stopped believing in himself. He fought and struggled to overcome the obstacles brought on by his epilepsy from age 15. Bruce had an indomitable spirit and will always be an inspiration for us all.
