Warren Funeral Home, Cemetery & MausoleumBruce Roy Winkle, age 65, has passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s. He was surrounded by his beloved sister, loving wife, and their 3 wonderful children.
Bruce was born July 16, 1960 in Chicago IL, and raised in a loving household of his mother, Jonnie Lou Winkle, father, Lon Winkle, and younger sister, Jewel Winkle. From an early age he developed a deep love for comics, action figures, and fantasy board games. As he got older he continued developed a strong passion to learn and utilize new technologies. With this passion he started a 10 year journey to get his college degrees. During his bachelor’s he swapped majors several times, trying everything from photography to psychology. After his bachelors he received his masters in computer science with a focus of artificial intelligence at DePaul University. Afterwards he went to work for Allstate, where he would meet his future wife. In 1993, Bruce married Margarita Garcia and she adopted the family name of Winkle. A few years later, in 1997, they welcomed their first daughter, Natalia Winkle, into the world. They then welcomed their second daughter, Grace Winkle, in 1999, and their beloved son, Manuel Winkle, in 2003. Bruce raised his family with as much love and care as he received from those around him; however in 2015 he started to show some mental decline and in 2020 was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. From there he would start his long journey to the end of his life surrounded with a strong loving family to help him cross into heaven without regrets. He leaves a legacy of love with his family, whom miss him dearly but are happy that he is resting peacefully in the arms of our Lord.
Bruce’s celebration of life will be held at Joy Lutheran Church in Gurnee, IL on March 6th 2026, visitation starting at 5pm. As his family mourns his departure, they ask in lieu of flowers to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association charity or to Joy Lutheran Church, so Bruce’s memory can continue to help those who walk a similar path as him.
