Bruno Cantú Obituary

Bruno G. Cantú Sr., 92, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 7, 1933, in Benavides, Texas, to his parents, Gabriel and Maria G. Cantú. Bruno attended school in Benavides and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving two years of active duty and eight years of combined active and reserve service.
He was employed with B.G. Cornelius Construction Company for over 36 years, and was also a dedicated rancher and farmer throughout his life. His relentless spirit showed in all that he did-building, farming, ranching, hunting, gardening, raising his horses/goats and providing for his family. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, whose presence and guidance will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Maria Cantú; two sons, Timoteo P. Cantú, Bruno P. Cantú; his four brothers, Donato Cantú, Cruz Cantú, Jesus Canales, Vidal Cantú and his sister, Trinidad Canales.
Bruno is survived by his wife of 43 years of marriage, Irma G. Cantú of Benavides, Texas; his four sons, Bruno Alejandro Cantú, Jesus "Jesse" Cantú, Noel P. (Irene) Cantú and Valentine Rodriguez; four daughters, Veronica Cantú, Diana (Mario) Lopez, Esmeralda Kilbride, Idalia (Jose) Hernandes; brother, Julio Cantú; sister, Maria Luisa Hernandez; 14 grandchildren, Isabella Maria Canales, Paula Eliza Canales, Amber Cantú, Noel Cantú, Noah Cantú, Joseph Cantú, April Lopez, Mario Lopez, Ariel Lopez, Esperanza Lopez, Timothy Cantú, Natalie Burdick, Justin Cantú, Rachael Cantú; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephew, Donato Cantú Jr and family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Garza Funeral Home Chapel in San Diego, Texas, with Pastor Guillermo Guajardo, officiating. Military Graveside Services and Interment will follow at Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
