Bryan Strate Obituary

Bryan Clayton Strate, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and family at his home in Taylorsville, Utah, on February 16, 2026. His life was defined by hard work, faith, kindness, and a deep devotion to his family.

Born on June 11, 1946, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, Bryan, son of LaVona and Orene Strate, was one of four children, sharing his early years with his siblings Peggy Hancock, Carol Petersen, and Rick Strate. He often reminisced fondly about his childhood spent in Waterton National Park, where he developed a lifelong love of horses and the outdoors.

As a young man, he led guided horse tours through the park, proudly riding his beloved horse, Blue Boy. These memories remained some of the happiest of his life.

A skilled machinist by trade, Bryan took great pride in his craftsmanship and the precision of the work he produced. Before beginning his civilian career, he honorably served four years in the United States Air Force, where he cultivated the discipline, patriotism, and steady demeanor that became hallmarks of his character.

Bryan married Dianne Strate, the love of his life, on October 11th, 1985, and together they built a home rooted in love, faith, and mutual devotion. He was a dedicated father to Paul Strate (Tammy), Dawn Strate, David Strate (Cody), Carrie Thompson (JT), Steven Strate (Lisa), and Joel Strate (Amber), and a caring stepfather to Dennis Bellon (Holly) and Kelly Bellon. Providing for his family was one of Bryan's greatest joys. He worked tirelessly-and often quietly-to ensure they were supported, protected, and deeply loved.

Bryan had a lifelong passion for motorcycles and classic cars, always appreciating the rumble of a strong engine and the beauty of a well restored vehicle. He took great pride in his home and yard, keeping everything neat, orderly, and welcoming. Bryan especially loved playing with his children and grandchildren, cherishing every opportunity to laugh, connect, and make memories with them. His hands were constantly busy-building, fixing, creating-and many of his most meaningful projects were made for his grandchildren. Whether constructing a toy, a small piece of furniture, or a special keepsake, each item reflected his love, patience, and skill.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bryan lived his beliefs through quiet service, humility, and consistent kindness. He was the type of man who helped without being asked, followed through on every promise, and treated everyone with respect.

Bryan and Dianne are the proud grandparents of 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, all of whom felt his love in countless ways. His gentle humor, strong hands, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by each of them and by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bryan's viewing will be held at McDougal Funeral Home at 4330 S Redwood Rd on Thursday, Feb 26th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 5233 S 3200 W in Taylorsville, Utah on Friday, February 27th at 12 p.m., with a viewing prior from 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Bryan's Hospice care team-including William, Deana, Jennifer, and others-who cared for him with great love, compassion, and dignity, and for the prayers, kindness, and support offered during this time by friends and family.

Bryan will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.
