Bryce Hickman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Freeman Mortuary - Jefferson City on Mar. 14, 2024.
Bryce Edward Hickman, age 40, of Taos, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo., after a courageous fight with kidney cancer.
Bryce was born in Jefferson City, Mo., on March 20, 1983, the son of Paul Edward and Cheryl Suzanne (Stuecken) Hickman. On May 6, 2022, he was united in marriage to Shellana Renee Powell, who survives at their home.
Bryce attended and graduated from South Callaway High School in 2001. Throughout his high school career, he played football and was on the track team. He had the privilege of being coached by his dad for most of his football career. In 1999, he was named All-State Pole Vaulter followed by being named First Team All-District Running Back and Columbia Tribune All-Area Running Back in 2000. In 2001, he was named South Callaway Male Athlete of the Year. His determination and love of competition aided in his athletic success and trickled into other aspects of his life.
After graduation, Bryce attended State Tech College in Linn, Mo. He graduated from their Automotive Technician Program with honors. He worked as an automotive technician at Blackwell Garage and Poettgen Automotive until achieving a lifelong dream of owning his own garage. He opened Hickman's Automotive in 2020 and operated the company until recently. One of his greatest joys in his work was becoming friends with his customers and serving them to the best of his ability.
Aside from his work, Bryce enjoyed being outdoors with family and friends, shooting guns, and golfing. He was also an avid football fan, particularly for the Denver Broncos. He looked forward to his annual football trip each year with his dad and son to cheer on the Broncos and visit different stadiums across the country. He cherished those trips and the comradery the sport brought.
Friendships and family relationships were incredibly important to Bryce. He loved his people fiercely and never missed an opportunity to gather; hayrides, camping, floating, holiday parties, and impromptu hangouts filled his cup. He had a huge heart for people and embodied all the attributes of a true friend; he was loyal, dependable, and generous. He was known to greet you with a big hug or the best high five, and an infectious smile.
One of Bryce's greatest dreams in life was to be a father. He was blessed with four children, all of whom he loved deeply. Spending quality time with his daughters on golf cart excursions to the park and bonding over his passion for football with his son were among his greatest joys. His profound love for his family ensures that his legacy will endure through his children.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shellana; four children, Katlyn Staehle of St. Louis, Mo., Cameron Staehle, and Madison and Brylee Hickman of the home; parents, Paul and Cheryl Hickman of Taos, Mo.; sister, Stephanie Burkemper (Philip) of St. Louis, Mo., father and mother-in-law, John and Betty Powell of Jefferson City; brother-in-law, Jared Powell (Kate) of Chicago, Ill., grandmother-in-law, Jean Powell; nieces, Amelia and Eleanor Burkemper, and Sophie Powell; nephew, Elliott Powell; and a host of extended family and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and close friend, Jason Toebben.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, in the Freeman Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cemetery in Taos, Mo.
