Bryce Lee McGowan, 81, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Hospital. He was born July 22, 1943, in Radcliff, KY to the late Charles William and Margaret Weidig McGowan. He graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, and received a Master of Divinity degree from The Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1968. He was a Presbyterian minister for 56 years, serving churches in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky. Bryce was a people person and a great humanitarian who believed in making a difference for others. He marched for civil rights during the 1960s and worked to improve workers' rights with the CWA. After retiring, he enjoyed volunteering with the Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency of the Bluegrass (NHOA) and continued to be very involved in the Transylvania Presbytery. He loved celebrations, the outdoors, and his family and friends. He was an extrovert who never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jean Ripson McGowan, a son, Daniel (Amy) McGowan of Lexington, KY, a daughter, Amy (Shane) Wilson of Danville, KY, and grandsons Connor and Avery McGowan and Benjamin and Michael Wilson.
Visitation will be Friday, November 22, 2024, at Kerr Brothers – Harrodsburg Road from 5-7 pm. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Pisgah Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Hannah McIntyre will officiate.
