Bryon LeRoy Coatney, 60, of Buckner, Missouri, passed away on December 4th 2025. He was born on May 6, 1965, and lived a life full of passion, generosity, and unshakeable joy.
Bryon was a talented musician whose first love was always music. He grew up in a family of musicians and went on to become a proud member of the well-known Kansas City band Unwritten Rulz, where he poured his heart into every performance. When he wasn’t playing guitar or making someone laugh with a funny face, Bryon was dedicating himself to another lifelong passion. He was a lover of Harley Davidsons and he and Francine had a large group of friends that they rode with often. He also had a lifelong love of restoring antique cars, which started by working on Model A cars with his father, a craft he continued throughout his life with great pride.
Bryon proudly graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1983 and then went on to build his own company, BCRoofing and Remodeling, which he successfully operated for 43 years. But above all the roles he held, Bryon treasured being a husband most deeply. His love for Francine was evident in everything he did. She was his partner, his steady place, and the person who brought him comfort, laughter, and joy. Their life together was full of music, companionship, and unwavering devotion.
To those who loved him, Bryon was known for his enormous heart and steady love for God. He was a wonderful stepfather, a devoted brother, and a loyal friend. He carried a smile everywhere he went and lived with a generosity that touched everyone around him. One of Bryon’s greatest joys was his dog, Gibson, who faithfully rode on his lap in his “office”—his truck—no matter where he went. In July, Bryon proudly became Papa B with the birth of his first grandchild, Maverick, a role that filled him with immense happiness.
Bryon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earney and Mildred Coatney, Rudy and Opal Brawner, and his father, Earney LeRoy Coatney.
He is survived by his loving wife, Francine; his stepchildren Jared Canter and Jordan McGarrah, along with Jordan’s husband Brandon and their son Maverick McGarrah; his mother, Olivia Coatney; his brother Lee Chapman; his sisters Christina Coatney, Carol Prettyman (Steve) and; his nieces and nephews Ryan (Jessica), Rebecca, Jessica, Jennifer, Jamie Ogan and William and Wesley Prettyman.
Bryon’s boundless energy, humor, and light will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His love for his family—especially Francine—leaves a legacy of devotion and joy that will never be forgotten.
