Bud Roger Gerard

Bay City, Michigan

Loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Bud Roger Gerard, age 87, passed away at his home in Bay City on August 14, 2025. He was born on February 14, 1938, in Bay City to the late George W. and Rosamund (Shaver) Gerard.

Bud proudly served in the United States Army as a Private First Class. Following his service, he began his lifelong career in law enforcement with the Bay City Police Department, where he worked as a detective. He was known as a sharp shooter and firearms expert, training many fellow officers in safety and accuracy. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

A true outdoorsman, Bud enjoyed nature. He especially loved fishing, hunting, and even making it out to take down a moose. He also looked forward to his time at the shooting range. Bud was "Mr. Fix It" and could build anything or be found tinkering with just about everything. Friends and family will also remember his love of card games, time spent at the casino with Jennine and, of course, their big wins.

Above all else, Bud loved his family deeply. He welcomed everyone with open arms, and his kindness and acceptance were defining traits of his character. He openly and lovingly embraced those who joined the family, growing their circle closer and stronger. Bud was also a jokester at heart, always quick with a story, a laugh, or a playful remark that left everyone smiling.

Bud was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Jennine Gerard, and together they shared 57 years of love and partnership. His greatest pride was his family. Surviving are his children: Rick (Toni) Scheel, Vicki (Scott) McTaggart, Micki (T.J.) Anthony, Mark D. (Jodie) Gerard, and Marci (John) Gholston. He also leaves behind many treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bud is survived by his brothers Richard G. Gerard and Claude J. Gerard. He was preceded in death by his siblings Clayton Gerard and George L. Gerard.

A private family service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.

Bud will be remembered as a loving, protective, and hardworking man who lived life with purpose, humor, and heart. His legacy will continue through his family and the countless lives he touched.
