Don Bud Holmes, age 81, passed away on January 21, 2026. He was born on June 8, 1944, in
Lehi, Utah, to David William Holmes and Genevieve Otterson Holmes.
Bud grew up in Lehi, where some of his fondest childhood memories were riding out in West Canyon with his granddad, Nels Otterson-a love of horses and the outdoors that stayed with him throughout his life. He graduated from Lehi High School and later married Kathryn Madge Harris. Together they had four children. During those years, Bud and Kathryn rode the rodeo circuit, team roping and serving as leaders for the high school rodeo team. They were also active members of the Lehi Riding Club. They later divorced.
Bud worked for over 30 years with Iron Workers Union, Local 27, spending much of his career building and maintaining power plants throughout Carbon and Emery counties. His strong work ethic and skill were hallmarks of his life. He later co-owned Steel Erectors, Inc. with his son, working side by side for many years before retiring.
Bud rode horses as often as he could until he was no longer able, never losing his love for the western way of life. He enjoyed leather working, braiding reins, farming and fishing. In 2002, he married Lana Faye Cook, and together they built a life filled with simple joys-fishing trips and riding their side-by-side on the desert, enjoying time together outdoors with family and friends. He loved horses, dogs and birds and had several pets throughout his lifetime.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, David Rex Holmes, Ferris Eldon Holmes, Gary G. Holmes, Dan Ray Holmes and step-daughter Mollie Cunningham Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Lana Faye Cook Holmes; his brother, Dick Holmes of Washington; his sisters, GenaVee "Sis" (Dale) Campbell of Colorado and Jeanine (Calvin) Cook of Cedar Fort, Utah; and his children: Justin Bud (Lisa) Holmes of Orem, Utah; Lec Don (Kim) Holmes of
Lehi, Utah; Paige Holmes of Scenic, Arizona; and Ty Shine (Marlo) Holmes of
Lehi, Utah, step-daughter Deana (Bret) Ballow of Levan, Utah, 20 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
Bud will be remembered for sitting in the shade telling stories and watching his grandchildren play, his love of animals and the outdoors, and the love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories shared by those who loved him.
A viewing will be held at Wing Mortuary 118 E Main Street Lehi on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 12 pm to 1 pm followed by a reading of his life sketch and time for family and friends to share memories. Interment will be held at the Lehi City Cemetery.
