Buddy Hayes

Mahlon "Buddy" Hayes, 74 of Wellsburg, WV, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, with his daughter by his side. Buddy was born October 11, 1950, in Wellsburg, WV to the late Virgil and Adrian Wilson Hayes. Buddy was a proud U.S. Army veteran, loving father, and devoted grandfather.

After serving his country in the Army, Buddy built a long career as a skilled tool and die maker at Eagle Manufacturing.

Known for his strong work ethic and steady hands, he took pride in his craft and in providing for his family. Outside of work, Buddy's true passion was cars - he loved working on them, racing them, and passing down that same love of engines and speed to those around him.

Buddy is survived by his two children, daughter, Julie and his favorite son-in-law Nick Devore of Mingo Junction, OH and son, Steven and his favorite daughter-In-law Lauren Hayes of Lithia, FL.

He was a proud grandfather to Steven Jr. and Addison Hayes, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by one sister Florence Carpico.

Buddy held a special place in his heart for his late granddaughter, Breanna Arthurs, whose memory he cherished deeply. Buddy is also preceded in death by his brother Bernard, Melvin and David Hayes, and sisters Helen Postlethwait, Betty Bowers, Mona Faye Walden, and Donna Miller.

Buddy passed on not only his hard work ethic to his kids, but also his playful knack for "raising a little hell." He will be remembered for his humor, his grit, and the way he lived life on his own terms. His laughter and love will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Reasner Funeral Home 1515 Charles Street, Wellsburg, WV. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor David Colvin Officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV with Full Military Honors by The US Army Honor Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
