Buddy Lee Richter, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away on June 11, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and creativity. Born on November 30, 1934, at the family farm in Hayes County, Nebraska, he went from being a farm boy to being a world traveler and managing director of Chevron Overseas.
Buddy was the son of Hazel and Harold Richter, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. He married the love of his life, Janice Rosella Felker, on September 5, 1953, in Holyoke, Colorado. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter, and their bond served as a testament to the power of true partnership and dedication to family.
Buddy proudly served his country as a pipe fitter, Submarine Division, during the Korean Conflict, taking his new wife on the first of many overseas adventures to Honolulu, Hawaii. After his military service, he pursued his education at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where he majored in accounting and minored in economics, laying the foundation for a successful career. Adding the first of 4 children, Dru Anne Richter Marshall and 18 months later Steven Lee Richter didn't stop him from graduating from college. Bud and Jan then added Brenda Richter Wilson and 2 years later, Charles Del Richter.
Buddy worked with Chevron Oil, for 31 years, where he traveled extensively, with stints in Colorado, Utah, California, Kentucky, Sudan, China, and Nigeria. He embraced his professional journey with dedication and passion, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and the communities he served.
Beyond his professional achievements, Buddy was a man of many interests. He had a profound love for woodworking, creating beautiful pieces of furniture and small useful items for his family that will be cherished for generations. His enthusiasm for guns and the gun range, football, ATVing with his buddies in Arizona, fishing for trout and walleye, walking, reading and staying informed on current events reflected his vibrant spirit. Known for his characteristic toothpick, Buddy had an eye for new cars. His love for his wife and children was evident in every aspect of his life. He found immense joy in being around his grand and great-grandchildren, which brought him endless happiness.
In October 2024, Bud and Jan moved to
Georgetown, Texas, to be closer to their daughter Brenda and her family, a decision that highlighted their deep family values. Buddy's legacy is carried on by his loving wife of 71 and 1/2 years, Janice; daughter, Dru Anne, (Jeffery) Marshall; children, Andrew, Elizabeth, (James )Bishop, Rebecca Marshall; son, Steven ( Leslie) Richter; children, Stephen Phillip ( Lorena) Richter Brian Richter; daughter, Brenda (Thomas) Wilson; children, Thomas ( Kendall )Wilson, Robert (Brittany) Wilson, Grace (Colby) Christian; son Charles ( Cheryl) Richter; children, Benjamin (Michelle) Richter, Katelyn (Wesley) Junker. Additionally, he leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren who adored him, sister, Bonnie Jean (Con) Radar, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by parents; Hazel and Harold Richter, brother, Delmar Richter.
A service to celebrate Buddy's remarkable life will be held on June 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM, Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor a man who touched the lives of so many.
Buddy Lee Richter will be forever remembered for his kindness, unwavering love for his family, and his zest for life. His spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. In the hearts of his family and friends, he will remain a beloved presence, guiding them with his enduring love.
