Burrell Mattison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Sep. 7, 2025.
It is with deep sadness and loving hearts that we announce the passing of Burrell Mattison, 85, on Sunday, September 7, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Shirley Matheson for 58 years, and a cherished father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

Burrell was born on August 29, 1940, in Trelawny, Jamaica, son of the late Allan and Andrusella Matheson, and graduated from Unity Government School. At the age of 18, he moved to Manchester Jamaica to pursue a trade in masonry. It was there that he met the love of his life, Shirley, and together they built a beautiful family grounded in love and faith. In 1982, Burrell immigrated to Hartford, CT, where he worked tirelessly to create a new life and prepare the way for his family to join him. Though his trade was masonry, he devoted more than 30 years of service to Mount Sinai Hospital in Environmental Services, retiring in 2010. Burrell's life was marked by hard work, resilience, kindness, and, above all, an unshakable devotion to those he loved.

Affectionately called "PaBurrell," by his family, he was a man of quiet strength who found joy in life's simple moments. He loved driving around MaShirley, listening to music, staying current with the news, and serving faithfully as a deacon in his church. His greatest joys, however, were spending time with his grandchildren, laughing, joking, telling stories, and playfully scrolling on his phone. His humor, warmth, and unforgettable facial expressions left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

To his devoted wife Shirley, he was her rock and the foundation of their home. To his children and grandchildren, he was more than a provider - he was a source of love, laughter, and comfort. When asked if there was anything in life he would have done differently, Burrell simply replied, "There's nothing more I could ask for."

In addition to his beloved wife, Shirley, he leaves to celebrate his life, his children, Elaine, Ruth, and Sandy; his grandchildren, Andre, Nicholas, Alyssa, Alysha, Anaya, and Guillen; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his children, Rosie and Audley; and his siblings, Alice, Victoria, Phyllis, Grizella, Althea, Ferdinand, Charles, Lloyd, and Stafford, whose memories continue to live on in the hearts of their family.

His family will receive friends on Friday, October 3, 6-8 p.m., at the Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor, and again on Saturday, October 4, 9-10, with a Celebration of Life, 10 a.m., at the Lodge.

Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

His family warmly welcomes all who knew and loved Burrell to join them in honoring a life well lived and deeply loved.
