Lillian Byrdie DeVane Sargo Mooney passed peacefully from this life to eternal joy and rest on August 29, 2025, in
Hot Springs, Arkansas, surrounded by her family and loving caregivers. She was born on June 4, 1938, to Augustus Hiram and Lillian Byrd DeVane, in Lakeland, Florida. She was their only child and their pride and joy.
The DeVanes moved from Lakeland to
Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1947, where her father built Hollywood Court. The initial move was to enjoy the benefits of the thermal baths that had drawn her father there decades before. Byrdie attended school in Hot Springs where her black and gold Model A Ford was a favorite. She graduated in 1955 and then attended Harding University. She returned home to marry Bill Sargo in 1956. Along with Bill she worked at Snow Springs Park, Sargo Livestock Farms & Dairy, Sam's Lures, Sargo Landscaping, and served for a semester as high school librarian at Fountain Lake School where Bill taught for 32 years. She considered her most important and favorite role to be that of devoted wife, mother, daughter, and servant of the Lord. Ten years after Bill's passing in 1993 and after caring for her mother until her passing, she rekindled a friendship with Howard Mooney. They married in 2003 and enjoyed many travel adventures together as well as enjoying their grandchildren until his passing in 2022.
Byrdie was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Bill Sargo and Howard Mooney, her son Sam Sargo, daughter-in-law Susan Williams Sargo, and half-siblings Hassie DeVane, Gus Devane, Eldred DeVane, Meekey Stone, Onnie Mabel Barham, and Daphne Potts.
