C.M. “Max” Guerry

1942 - 2025

C.M. Guerry - known to some as C.M., to others as Max, and to some simply as “Papa”, or Unkle Gooks passed away on September 29, 2025, at 2:34 a.m., at the age of 83.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home, 403 Locust Street, Sweetwater, Texas on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Military Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 3, 2025 at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, TX with Rev. Tex Cox officiating and military honors with the United States Naval Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Max proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Yorktown during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1965. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Olivia Ann, and together they built 63 years of marriage filled with loyalty, grit, and more laughter than most people get in a lifetime.

If you knew Max, you knew he loved to joke. He could turn any moment into a punchline and was famous for his outrageous, completely over-the-top “threats” the kind everyone knew were playful but somehow made you behave anyway. He had a way of keeping family on their toes and strangers laughing within minutes of meeting him.

On Saturdays and Sundays, you could always count on him being on the couch watching football, usually with the Dallas Cowboys on the screen, Fritos or popcorn in hand, and plenty of commentary about every play. He loved his Cowboys through the good, the bad, and the “maybe next year.”

Max is survived by his wife of 63 years, Olivia Ann, his son, Tracy Guerry and wife Susan of Lake Buchanan TX.his daughter, Debbie Ferris and husband Danny of Miami, TX and his grandson, Samuel Guerry and wife Adrian of Odessa, TX .He leaves behind countless friends, family, and stories that will be told and retold for years to come, always with a laugh at the end.

The family invites friends and loved ones to come share a story, enjoy a laugh, and maybe even wear some Cowboys blue in his honor.

Fair winds and following seas, Max and go Cowboys.
