Douglas Hincker, 79, of Plymouth, Michigan, passed away on December 29, 2022, at St Mary’s Livonia hospital.
Douglas was born April 21st, 1943, to Charles and Leslie Hincker in Dubuque, Iowa. Douglas’s siblings included Cheryl Schwind, and his two brothers Lawrence Hincker and Stephen Hincker. Douglas attended Wahlert High School and then continued his education at Loras College in Dubuque.
At that time Douglas joined the United States Army. After serving in the Army Douglas came to Detroit, MI for work with Ford Motor Company where he retired from after 38 years and also to continue his education at Eastern Michigan University where he graduated from.
Once in Detroit, Douglas me his true love, Jo Ellen Getzfrid. The couple were married on July 1st, 1967, and spent the next 55 years together in Plymouth, MI. Together the couple had two sons; Scott Douglas Hincker of Unadilla Nebraska (spouse Keri Suedmeier) and Mark Jacob Hincker of Westland, Michigan. In 2009 Douglas was given a grandson, Samuel Douglas Hincker, who was the apple of his grandfather’s eye. Douglas is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Schwind of Dubuque, Iowa.
Douglas was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan, loved his cat, Oatmeal and dedicated his life to serving his community. He has served many organizations in many positions including the following:
Douglas was a past president in many organizations including the Plymouth Jaycees, the Michigan JCI Senate, the US JCI Senate and the Plymouth Lyons. He also served as Exalted ruler for the Elks Lodge #325.
Douglas was also a member of The American Legion post #0391.
There will be a Celebration of Life gathering held for Douglas on January 14th, 2023 from 12pm to 4pm at the VFW Post 6695 located at 1426 S Mill St in Plymouth, MI. This will be a time for family and friends to celebrate and remember the life of Douglas. Refreshments and food will be provided.
