Patrick Bertrand Steffen

Patrick B. Steffen, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully at home, on March 15, 2026, after a long battle with cancer and heart disease, at the age of 87.

Patrick was born July 22, 1938, in Wells, MN; son of the late Bernard and Cholice (McGowan) Steffen. He attended school in Sleepy Eye and graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1956.

Following graduation, Patrick attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he played football. On October 8, 1960, Patrick married Diana Luedke. In their 65 years together as husband and wife, they welcomed 7 children and proudly watched their family grow with the addition of spouses and grandchildren. To support his family, Patrick worked for Del Monte, dedicating 35 years to the company.

Patrick had a love of sports and enjoyed watching the Packers and Badgers as well as teams from UWSP and local high schools. When he had the chance to participate in sports, his games of choice included golfing and bowling. Patrick also enjoyed card games and would play any chance he had. He also enjoyed wood working in his home shop while listening to Jazz. Above all else, Patrick enjoyed time with his family, especially the annual week-long vacation up north with everyone in attendance. His beloved pet cocker spaniels were equally as important to him, and he spoiled them whenever he could.

Patrick is survived by his beloved wife, Diana; their 7 children, Phillip (Diane) of Algoma, Brian (Maribeth) of Plover, Julie (Pat) Daugherty of Wisconsin Rapids, Mark (Judith) of Oshkosh, Jeff (Jill) of Park Rapids, MN, Craig (Lisa) of Glenview, IL; and Christopher (Kristin) of Stevens Point; 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Steffen.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Cholice; his in-laws, Oscar and Adela Luedke; two brothers, Steve and Dan Steffen; and one grandson, Adam.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Stevens Point and Plover.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Shuda Funeral Chapel - 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Plover Cemetery.
