Benson, NC: Mr. C. Glenn “Fireball” Mayes, age 78, of Elevation Road passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Fayetteville Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM Monday, May 6, 2024 at Oliver’s Grove Baptist Church in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Rev. David Brantley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

Mr. Mayes was born on April 19, 1946 in Johnston County, NC to the late John Brent and Lela Land Mayes. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Lou Mayes. Mr. Mayes retired from construction and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and being called “Pa Glenn”. Mr. Mayes was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. 

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Hayes Mayes; step-grandson, Zachary Johnson and wife, Amanda of Benson; step great-grandchildren, Mary Scott Johnson and Iva Christine Johnson; sister, Becky Thornton of Four Oaks, Barbara Corey of Robersonville, Shirley Weaver of Raleigh, and Margaret Cashwell and husband, J.C. of Steadman; brothers, Don Mayes and wife, Joan of Princeton, and Tom Mayes and wife, Ida of Clayton; several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 10:00AM to 10:45AM on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Oliver’s Grove Baptist Church and other times at the home.  

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.
