Scotty was born March 4, 1930, to Clifton Wright Scott and Amanda Belle Curry of Adair Co., Breeding, Kentucky. He served in the Air Force and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada. After being discharged from the Air Force, C.W. went to Iowa to seek employment. In Iowa he met his future wife, Dolores Coppinger while on a blind date. They were married in Rock Island, IL on May 29, 1954 with Dwayne and Jeannette Hicks as their witnesses.
C.W. was employed by Oscar Mayer for 39 years, built and operated Scotty’s Car Wash in Buffalo, Iowa for 30 years. He loved gardening and sharing the bounty of his garden with others. Conversation was his hobby. Scotty loved his homeplace in Kentucky and enjoyed the relationships he had with relatives and friends. Many of you may have seen Scotty on the 75th Anniversary commercial for the Family Credit Union.
The hard times of the Great Depression kept Scotty from receiving the formal education he sought. School was traded for working in the fields to help his widowed mother. Over and over he stressed the importance of an education. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be set up to help facilitate his driven desire to see his grandchildren college-educated.
A loving husband and father, Scotty viewed his grandchildren as his legacy and he took much pride in them. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dolores; daughters, Sheila (Chuck) Mesick, Liane (Bill) Seals, of Davenport, Maureen McCartney, Plymouth, MN, Regina (Tom) Willich, Bettendorf, his grandchildren, Stella Shumaker, Amanda and Scott (Silvia) McCartney, Taylor, Jordan, Payton, and Paul Shumaker, Dillion, Catlin, and Sean Willich, Madeline and Olivia Ousley; a great granddaughter, Anna Maureen McCartney; siblings, Cortez Scott, Buffalo, Iowa, Charlcie (Delbert) Gray, Glasglow, KY, Lorene (Dick) Morris, Litchfield, KY., a brother-in-law Delvin (Erma) Coppinger, Oskaloosa, IA
