Caleb Michael Decker of Hartland, MI, went home to his Heavenly Father on October 30, 2024. He was 16 years old.
He is survived by his parents, Josh and Kim Decker; siblings, Ben and Noah Decker; grandparents, Jim & Jerie Decker, Tom & Millie Lewis; his uncle and aunts, Lee (Amanda) Lewis, Jenessa Gibson; cousins, Blake and Roman Lewis; also many extended family and dear friends.
Caleb is preceded by his uncle Billy Lewis.
Caleb marched to the beat of his own drum, both figuratively and literally. From the time he was old enough to hold spoons and bang on a pot, he was making rhythm. But that's also how he approached life, not caring what most people thought about how he did things.
Caleb also had a huge heart for people and exceptional empathy toward others, especially those who appeared to be outsiders. When he was in kindergarten, he came home so concerned that not all the kids in his class knew or prayed to God. This continued through to his death, looking at those students he was engaged with and how he could point them to God.
Caleb had a massive heart for both his brothers, even if he showed annoyance. He loved wrestling and goofing around with them when mom and dad weren't looking. He also defended them fiercely when needed.
Caleb was exceptionally artistic and was most satisfied while working on some creative endeavors. Over the last four years, he sought solace from the tough parts of treatment, doctor visits, hospital admissions and surgeries by not just playing video games, but learning how to create, edit and upload videos to YouTube. He also studied the intricacies of running a YouTube channel as a career path rather than just a hobby.
His creative endeavors had recently shifted more toward music and worship. He loved being at church and serving in his student ministry as part of the tech team, especially when programming stage lights. He had also started writing lyrics as a form of coping with all he had gone through, all while encouraging those around him.
Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty St., Milford, 48381 on Monday, November 4, 2024, from 2 pm - 8 pm.
Celebration of Life Service at 2|42 Community Church, 7526 Grand River Ave., Brighton, MI 48116 on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11 am.
Caleb will be interred at Highland Cemetery following the service. A luncheon at 2|42 Community Church will follow interment.
Caleb was uncomfortable in formal attire. Therefore, the family requests informal attire at both the visitation and service. They encourage attendees to wear flannel, Michigan State apparel, or a Hope for Caleb t-shirt if they have one.
