Calvin Bettis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Turner Funeral Home - Waynesboro on Dec. 9, 2025.
SATURDAY, May 22, 1937 was the day MR. CALVIN BETTIS was born. He joined Little Rock AME Church as a youth. He married the former Eleaner Kirksey, and the couple would share 60 loving years together until her passing on November 5, 2024.

When Mr. Bettis was raising his family, his personal motto was "saying what you mean, and meaning what you say. He loved his job (as a log truck driver) that he held for over 40 years until he retired. On the evening of November 30, 2025, Mr. Bettis was called to come to his eternal home.

The countless loving reflections of his life are left with his two daughters: Laureen and Loreen Bettis; one stepson: Benjamin Kirksey; one granddaughter: Loaria Bettis; three brothers: Frank (Annie) Pacley, Jim Pacley, and Rev. James (Gloria) Pacley; two sisters: Lula Bloxson and Ollie (Levester) Bonner, and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bettis was preceded in death by his father and mother: Essie McLeod and Ollie Bettis, and two daughters: Romona Donald and Annie Louise Bettis.

Funeral services will occur Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Little Rock AME Church in the Crandall community (Quitman), with Rev. James Pacley as the eulogist. Interment will follow at Zion Chapel Cemetery, also in Crandall.

The viewing period will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Little Rock AME Church.
