Calvin Cole Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services from Feb. 15 to Feb. 20, 2026.
ROCKY MOUNT – Calvin Scott Cole, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Born in Baltimore, MD on November 12, 1947, he was the son of the late James Edward Cole and Geniva Atkinson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Holmes, Glasco Holmes, James Earl Holmes, Willie James Holmes, Fred Cole, and Richard Cole; sisters, Pauline Holmes, Dorothy Lewis-Holmes, Margaret Ann Holmes, Louberta Cole, and Linda Cole.

Calvin was a man full of life, laughter, and personality. He loved to talk and had a gift for making people smile with his jokes and playful teasing. If you spent any time around him, you were sure to hear a good story and share a hearty laugh.

A creative soul, Calvin loved to draw and express himself through his artwork. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially when it meant gathering with family and friends. He was incredibly proud of his family and never missed a chance to show off their pictures to anyone who would look.

Calvin was especially known for "stealing" his sister Pauline's biscuits - a running family joke that perfectly captured his fun-loving spirit.

Above all, Calvin loved his family dearly. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his humor, his creativity, and the joy he brought to everyone around him.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Candy Horton Cole; step-children, Wanda Horton, Robert Horton, Tommy Horton, Candy Horton, Barbara Allen, James Horton, Pamela Evans, Mary Frazier, Luke Horton (Melissa), and Otha Horton; favorite nephews, Charles Powell (Avery), William Caldwell, Calvin Caldwell; niece, Bonnie Caldwell; great-nephew, Markell Mallory; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Pastor Iva Davis officiating.
