The Life Journey of Mr. Calvin Matlock

Mr. Calvin Matlock, a devoted servant, educator, and pillar of the Pine Bluff community, peacefully transitioned from this life on October 8, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on October 23, 1937, to the late Harvey Matlock and Jimmie White Matlock.

Mr. Matlock accepted Christ at an early age and remained a faithful and dedicated member of St. John A.M.E. Church throughout his life. His love for God and his church was evident through his steadfast service in numerous capacities: including the Steward Board, Trustee Board, Finance Department, and as a Church School teacher. Mr. Matlock's faith, commitment, service to God, his family, his church and his community have left a lasting mark on all who knew him.

On December 27, 1975, Mr. Matlock was united in holy matrimony with Annie Pearl Freeman. She was a loving and devoted wife who stood faithfully by his side through every season of life and remained with him until the very end. Their enduring love and partnership were a testament to commitment, faith, and mutual devotion.

Mr. Matlock was a proud and active lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he lived out the fraternity's ideals of scholarship, leadership, and service to all mankind.

Professionally, for over four decades, Mr. Matlock performed dutiful and faithful services to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as the Director of Computer Services and as the Director of Human Resources. While serving in these capacities at the University, additionally, Mr. Matlock served as an employee of the Arkansas AM&N Federal Credit Union and continued there until his earthly transition.

Beyond his professional and church life, Mr. Matlock was a strong supporter of youth and education. He volunteered with the Pine Bluff Boys' and Girls' Club, mentoring countless young people and encouraging them to pursue honesty, excellence and integrity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Jimmie White Matlock, and two brothers, Clyde Matlock and Henry Matlock, Sr.

Mr. Matlock leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Annie Pearl Matlock; his devoted children, Karen Booth (Stephen), Krystal Moody (Billy), Janice Matlock, Gene Matlock, and Teresa Matlock; his beloved sister, Jo C. Bembry; his cherished grandchildren, nephews, and nieces; along with his extended family, church family, fraternity brothers, colleagues, and a host of dear friends. Each of them carries with them the strength of his faith, his wisdom, and the example of a life well-lived.

Mr. Calvin Matlock's journey on earth has ended, but his legacy of joy, love, service, and faith will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.

"His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." Matthew 25:21

Visitation will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Brown Funeral Home, Pine Bluff, AR 71601. The Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025, St. John A.M. E. Church, Pine Bluff, AR Rev. Dr. W.R. Norful, Sr. officiating. Interment in Graceland Cemetery Pine Bluff, AR. His body will lie in-state from 9:15 a.m. until service time. Services entrusted to Brown Funeral Home Pine Bluff.
