Calvin Ray Mohr Jr., more affectionately known as “Cal”, “Corky,” or “Grandpa Cal”, was born on March 21, 1944, in Vancouver, Washington, the beloved son of Calvin R. and Alice (Turner) Mohr. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. With a strong sense of duty and patriotism, Cal proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after completing his education. He faithfully served his country for four years and four months, embodying the courage, discipline, and dedication that would define his life.
On August 2, 1984, Cal married Margaret Stacey, in Omaha, Nebraska. After a brief time in Omaha, the couple moved to Cumberland, Iowa, before settling in Manning in 1987—a community that would come to hold a special place in Cal’s heart. Manning held a special charm for Cal. He was deeply invested in his community, always eager to catch a parade or stay informed about local events.
Cal embraced a career as a truck driver, a job that suited his hardworking nature and love of the open road. He received multiple million-mile awards. Even after retiring, he couldn’t resist the opportunity to take on additional loads, always staying connected to the work he enjoyed.
In his free time, Cal could often be found at the local VFW and Brickhaus Brewery, sharing stories and laughter with members of the community. He had a passion for tinkering, whether fixing his own cars or lending a hand to friends and neighbors. His favorite perch was his well-loved, slightly outdated porch swing, where he would sit and soak in the world around him.
Above all, Cal treasured his family. He found immense joy in making memories with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His face would light up at the sound of their laughter, and his heart swelled with pride at their achievements.
Calvin passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids, Iowa at the age of 80 years, nine months and 27 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret Mohr; son, Richard Stacey; siblings: Paul Mohr, Brian Mohr and Nancy McQuigg.
Calvin is survived by his children: Virginia Wanser of Lakewood, New York, Fred Stacey of Parker, Colorado, Shawn (Wendy) Mohr of Wetumpka, Alabama and Scott Mohr of Osage Beach, Missouri; grandchildren: Elizabeth Stacey, Tyler Stull, Dylan (Becca) Bradley, Austin Stull, Katie (Brandon) Bolan, Abby Wanser, Andrew Hanthorne, Maddison Weston, Devan Mohr and Patrick Mohr; great-grandchildren: Ezekial, Theodore, Augustus, Ella, Archer and Winry; siblings: Robert (Eric) Mohr, Sherri (Jason) Miller and Susie (Ken) Kirchner; brother-in-law, Don McQuigg; son-in-law, Donnie Wanser; and other family members and friends.
