Calynne Andrews Hill, a kind and beautiful soul, died peacefully at home on February 16, after a yearlong battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). She was known to many through her good works, generous spirit, love of her family and friends, and ability to truly get the most out of life. Her courage throughout her illness has been an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a loving daughter, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, friend and an incredible wife.
Calynne was born in Tallahassee in 1959 to Marvin and Gingir Andrews. With her two younger sisters, the Andrews had wonderful trips travelling together across the US in a motorhome. She graduated from Leon High School, attended Virginia Intermont College and Appalachian State. Following college, she moved to New York City, where she was a professional model. She continued modeling in Miami and in Tallahassee. In addition, she became a restauranteur and caterer. In 1991 she obtained her real estate license and went on to build a very successful real estate company, Hill, Spooner and Elliot.
In 1993 Lou Hill and Calynne were married and she became a doting step-mother to Pierson and Brittany. Calynne and Lou were a perfect match, not only in love, but in introducing each other to new interests and supporting each other in all that they did. They supported the arts, wildlife and environmental organizations, archeology efforts and more. However, full-time work did not keep her from involvement in myriad aspects of our community – Word of South, P.E.O. Chapter CL, Tall Timbers, Oleander Garden Circle, Board of Gadsden Arts Center, Patron Judge and sponsor of LeMoyne's Art in the Park festival, the Spring Garden Party for the TMH Cancer Center, Big Bend Hospice's Singer/Songwriter Fundraiser. In addition, she and Lou travelled extensively, and she was always planning their next trip. They were avid collectors of art, many pieces of which they donated to museums throughout the country, including the Smithsonian and the American Folk Art Museum. Calynne was the consummate hostess and homemaker.
Calynne was predeceased by her father Marvin Andrews. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband Lou; children, Pierson Hill (Kim) and Brittany Dean (Wilson); grandchildren, Dawson, Harper and Copeland Dean; mother, Gingir Andrews; sisters, Shanna Ray (Glenn) and Krista Andrews; numerous nieces and nephews (Cody, Corey, Colt Williford; Joshua, Connor and Saralyn Stephens; Rachel Bartlett and Coleman Brooks); godchildren and an extensive extended family. In addition, there are countless friends who adored, respected and cherished Calynne. Her absence is immeasurable.
A celebration of Calynne's life will be held Wednesday, March 19 at 11:00 at Trinity United Methodist Church, where Calynne became the church's newest member.
Special thanks to Big Bend Hospice, Jen Taylor RN and friends and family who attended to her care and comfort over the past few months.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to any of the organizations listed above to which Calynne was so dedicated in her time and resources.
