Cameron Button Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benton Funeral Home - Fort Benton on Mar. 11, 2026.
Cameron C. Button, Jr. passed away on March 8, 2026. Cameron was born in Eugene, Oregon on February 25, 1952, to Rosa and Cameron Button, Sr. He was premature at birth and weighed less than three pounds. Cameron eventually thrived, which is a testament to the same strong will that he exhibited throughout his life.

An energetic child, Cameron loved to catch grasshoppers, frogs, and crawdads. Growing up in Oregon, he had ample access to nature, and he adopted a lifelong love of the outdoors. Cameron's three older sisters remember him as a curious kid, who was always taking things apart. Nothing in the house was safe from his desire to learn how things worked. His sister Sharon barely rescued her new, portable record player from his disassembly attempts when he was eleven. The problem was never his dismantling efforts – which were generally successful – it was that he often forgot how to put the parts back together.

After high school, Cameron worked in the logging industry for several years. He moved to Montana in his early twenties in pursuit of other careers. He met, married, and eventually divorced his wife in Fort Benton. Although the marriage was unsuccessful, he stayed in Montana for his two daughters. Cameron believed that the best way to raise girls was to treat them like boys. To that end, he spent many weekends dragging them through the Highwoods in pursuit of brookies and rainbows. After his children moved away, he could usually be found at his favorite fishing holes with one of his buddies.

Cameron's childhood curiosity stayed with him throughout his life. He was an expert mechanic, and his reassembly skills vastly improved in adulthood. Whenever a vehicle or piece of equipment stopped working or sounded funny, Cameron was the first person his friends and family called. Like many mechanics, he also developed a hoarding habit with car parts and tools, because you just never knew when you might need them. Cameron enjoyed playing cribbage and enjoyed even more pretending like he had forgotten how to play. His daughter eventually realized he had a weekly game with friends, and the forgetful bit was purely to swindle her.

Cameron will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents Rosa Button and Cameron Button, Sr. He is survived by three older sisters – Candy (Brad) Elliott, Sharon Yunke, and Camellia Button. He is further survived by his two daughters – Jesslyn Button and Adrian (Jordan) Miller. A memorial for Cameron will be held at 2:00 PM on April 11, 2026 at Benton Funeral Home in Fort Benton.
