Cameron Heiden, 95, of Fergus Falls passed away June 25, 2024, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. He will be greatly missed.
Born on September 25, 1928, in Deer Creek, Minnesota to Carl and Lillian (Halvorson) Heiden, Cameron spent his days growing up on the family farm near Deer Creek and Hewitt to serving in the Army and being stationed in Germany from 1952 to 1954, Cameron's sense of duty and love for his country shone through in every aspect of his life.
Cameron worked at the Wendell Creamery where he honed his skills in the art of butter making—a passion that led to a triumphant first-place finish in the Ottertail County Fair Butter Contest in 1960.
In 1957, Cameron began working at Mid-America Dairy in Fergus Falls as a butter and cheese maker, until his well-deserved retirement in 1990. His dedication to his craft and unwavering work ethic set an example for all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Cameron will be remembered for his role as "Mr. Zion" at Zion Lutheran Church since 1955. He was on the church council and was the janitor there for many years. As well as working closely with the church on many other jobs. His love for spending time with family and commitment to his faith brought joy to those around him. Described as caring and kind by all who knew him, Cameron's impact extended far beyond his immediate circle.
After retiring Cameron volunteered as a Blood Services Courier for the Red Cross spanning 15 years, during which he traveled over 90,000 miles and spent 3,000 hours ensuring the well-being of others. Over his lifetime Cameron donated over 8 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.
During retirement Cameron and Mayme traveled to many states and to Norway, they also built a new house and Cameron worked side by side with his son-in-law Wayne. He loved fishing and would take all four of his young children fishing. Later in life Cameron and his son Mike went on many fishing trips together.
Cameron married his ‘Sweetheart’ Mayme Johnson on October 1, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church, they were married for a wonderful 58 years. Their union bore four children: Sandra, Michael, Diane, and Pam. Mayme and their children were sources of joy and pride for Cameron throughout his life.
Cameron is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Lillian Heiden, wife and sweetheart Mayme Heiden; daughter Pamela Stach; siblings Lavane Ugstad, Darla Heiden, Ronald Heiden; daughter-in-law Jenyne Heiden; son-in-law Wayne Shearer.
Cameron is survived by his daughters Sandra (Terry) Bedard of Fergus Falls, Diane Shearer of Fergus Falls; son Michael (Lonee) Heiden of Fergus Falls; son-in-law Kraig Stach (Denise Cameron) of Fergus Falls; Grandchildren: David (Lynn) Bedard, Jessica Hasbargen, Gene (Katrina) Bedard, Elisha Bedard, Jenna (Zac) Svir, Tracee (Jason) Guthrie, Janie (Jake) Bigelow, Nycole (Taylor) Larson, Jesse Shearer, James (Michelle) Shearer, Megan (Max) Sheldon, Zackary (Amanda) Stach, Kristopher (Mya) Stach, Corey (Krystle) Stach; great-grandchildren: Lily, Tyler, Anniesa, John, Levi, Oliver, Alexander, Everrett, Paisley, Ruby, Charlotte, Hazel, Evelyn, Camryn, Sawyer, Haylie, Trent, Laycie, Makayla, Lillian, Violet, Charlotte, Delilah, Lincoln, Daymian, Teylor, Kaleb, and Kai; great-great-granddaughter Jazzlyn; along with numerous other relatives and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
In honoring the memory of Cameron Eugene Heiden may we all strive to embody the same spirit he carried with grace and humility throughout his lifetime—a true testament to a life well-lived. The life of Cameron Heiden was a testament to dedication, kindness, and hard work.
Cameron Eugene Heiden leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, dedication, and love that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
A visitation at 10:00am followed by a funeral service will be held on July 2nd at 11:00am at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls to honor his remarkable life.
In honor of Cameron and Independence Day, please wear red, white and blue to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Center or Zion Lutheran Church of Fergus Falls are preferred.
