Cameron L. Laug, fondly known as "Cam," was born on March 2, 1961, in Saginaw Michigan, and peacefully passed away at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City on November 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
For several years, Cam lived in Escanaba before he and his family moved to Gaylord. A graduate of Gaylord High School in 1979, Cam spent the majority of his life in Gaylord, where he co-owned and operated Mels Amoco with his father for 25 years. This family-run business, now known as the Family Fare gas station, was not only an integral part of the local community but also a place where Cam shared his skills as a mechanic and relationships with customers and friends alike.
Cam's personality was defined by his love for being around people. Known for his friendly demeanor and always up for a conversation, he made friends wherever he went. His hobbies and interests included golfing, bird hunting, ice fishing, mushroom hunting, and working on cars while helping his buddies. A talented cook, Cam also enjoyed spending time in the Upper Peninsula, where he found peace and made many memories.
He is survived by his five children: Kristen (Tyler) Roberts, Thaddeus Laug, Carly Laug, Trevor Laug, and Cam (Abby) Laug; his sister, Linda (Ben) Doil; his brothers, Kurtis (Susan) Laug, and Todd Laug; grandfather to Logan, Lainey, Gavin, Jase, and Baby Vaida. On the very day Cam departed this world, the Laug Family welcomed the arrival of his newborn granddaughter. This remarkable continuity of life serves as a testament to the enduring cycle of love and connection that knits together families in both joy and sorrow. While we grapple with the mysteries of life's journey, we hold dear the thought that Cam's spirit is woven into this new life, guiding and watching over her as she grows.
Cam was preceded in death by his parents, Melbourne and Donna (Sheridan) Laug, whose love and guidance shaped him into the man he became.
Visitation for Cam will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service, followed by a memorial service beginning at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his children, checks to be made payable to: Kristen Roberts, 850 N. Center Avenue, Gaylord MI 49735.
