Robert E. "Bob" Grunow, 89 of Boyne City, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, just a week shy of his 90th birthday..
Bob was born March 15, 1936, the youngest of the four children of Elmer and Elizabeth Grunow, in Detroit, Michigan. They moved to Boyne City was he was six and he lived there the rest of his life.
Bob joined the Army's Secret Security Agency after graduation from Boyne City High School in 1954, and served in Germany until 1956. He married his wife Marilyn J. Cornell on July 5, 1958, and they had three children. After his discharge from the Army he worked at United Technologies for 34 years and retired as an assistant manager.
Bob was an avid deer hunter and loved all shooting sports. Gardening and growing flowers kept him busy in the summer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn Janice (Cornel) Grunow; son, Robert Ward Grunow; daughter-in-law, Deborah Grunow; parents, Elmer and Elizabeth Grunow; siblings Al, Gloria and Frank Grunow.
He is survived by his children, Dan Grunow, and Susan (Jeff) Mikolowski; grandchildren, Nathan Mikolowski, Shandi Grunow, and Shane Grunow.
Per Bob's wishes the family will remember him privately. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Bob's name.
