Cathryn Ann Carney, affectionately known as Casey, was born on August 28, 1954, in East Lansing, Michigan. She passed away surrounded by love, leaving a legacy of compassion and comfort in her wake. As a talented emergency nurse and paramedic, Casey exemplified a life of service, impacting the lives of many throughout her career in nursing.
Her love for nature was fostered in her parents' cherished retreat at Glen Lake, where she spent countless hours exploring the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. These experiences whetted her interest in conservation, which eventually influenced the design of her dream 'cabin in the woods' in Mancelona, Michigan. In 2018, her commitment to the environment was recognized when her property was declared a wildlife sanctuary, where she nurtured wild things, cultivated beautiful wildflowers, and fed the bees.
Casey was a devoted dog lover and ran a successful breeding kennel, "North Wind Border Collies." Her passion for animal care extended to her many beloved pets, showcasing her deep affection for animals. A member of St. Matthew's Church in Mancelona, she was known for her devout faith and her generous spirit, donating her time and talents as a fiber artist and quilter to local veterans charities and shelters.
She is survived by her son, Kalen Leone; brother, Michael Carney; and sister, Susan Conway. Casey will be remembered not only for her professional contributions but also for her love of family, her adventurous spirit, and her unwavering dedication to stewardship, kindness, and her desire to do everything in love.
