Camilla Ernestina Dull

Camillia Ernestina Shumate Dull, age 67, passed away peacefully at Hugh Chatham Health on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. She was born March 5, 1958 in Surry County to the late Charles Edward Shumate and Lestine Gentry Shumate.

Although she had worked at different jobs in her early life, she was a homemaker the last several years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Dull and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her step-grandson, Austin Tyler Dull who she deeply loved, Uncle, Dalin Gentry, 1st cousins, Donna Cook, Vivian Combs, Sherry Holleman, Van Kennedy Jr., Terry Kennedy and Cathy Peabody, and several 2nd cousins. "Candi" loved the Lord with all her heart and loved to talk about Him and his goodness. Her greatest desire would be for everyone to come to know the Lord as their Savior and have a personal relationship with Him.

She had a great love for music and singing and sang with different groups in the past. She was a tremendous vocalist. She also loved to write songs, poems, letters and an occasional play. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Hugh Chatham Health and Mtn. Valley Hospice for their great care. They would also like to thank long time care givers Donna Cook, Kenny Taylor and Jeff and Anita Hall for the assistance and care they provided her for several years. Included is one of the poems she wrote.

"LOOK ERNIE LOOK!" she'd call to me using that ole' nickname I never quite broke her from. She'd get so excited about things of beauty, she would want to share them with me. It's just another one of those little things I miss about her so much since mom's gone to be with Jesus. As I looked at the candy canes on my Christmas tree this year, and remembered how perfectly they formed the first letter of Jesus' name, I wanted to shout, "LOOK MAMA LOOK!" "It's a Jesus tree!" And that's just what it is, because he made all things "bright and beautiful", some "fearfully and wonderfully". He came to be "The light of the world to those who sit in darkness," and has gone to prepare for those who share his love, a place of beauty our minds cannot comprehend. Where we will be together again. Why, I'm almost certain the first thing I'll hear when I get to heaven is, "LOOK, ERNIE LOOK!" "It's beautiful!"
