John Wiley Holbrook

John Wiley Holbrook, 95, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at The Landings of Chestnut Grove. Born on July 7, 1930, he was the son of the late John Herman Holbrook and Bessie Royall Holbrook.

Throughout his life, John pursued several career paths, but one of his greatest joys was mowing grass. He had a deep love for his mowers and took immense pride in every lawn he tended. His dedication and strong work ethic were evident as he continued mowing until October 2025.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edith Simmons Holbrook; a grandson, Brent Allen Hincher; his infant sister, Emma Jean Holbrook; his brother, James Tyre Holbrook; his sister, Lucille Holbrook Gambill; and his son-in-law, Harley Dale Hincher.

Family meant everything to John. He is survived by his daughters, Wanda Holbrook Hincher and Kathy Holbrook Poteate (Jeff); his grandchildren, Scott Daniel Hincher (Samantha), Courtney Bullin Stokes (Michael), Isaac Marshall Bullin (Alice), David Ross Bullin (Jess Fowler), his step-grandchildren, Aaron Poteate (Sydney), and Ashley Poteate; his great-grandchildren, Elliott Hincher, Joshua Hincher, Raejay Hincher, Rihanna Hincher, Riley Hincher, Sam Bullin, and Charlie Bullin; his step-great-grandchildren, Morgan Stokes and Hudson Poteate; and his great-great-grandchildren, Elijah "Eli" Hincher and Oaklynn Hincher.

The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. John Attaway and Rev. Houston Parks. Burial will follow at Center Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to The Landings of Chestnut Grove, Mountain Valley Hospice, Marion Alexander, Charity Cranford, his dedicated medical and caregiving team, and his special friend, Sandy Butler, for the compassion and care shown to John.
