Mrs. Camilla Ruth Rosser Wansley passed away at her son’s home in Elberton, Georgia on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the age of 92.
Mrs. Wansley was born at home in lower Elbert County on January 4, 1933, the youngest of three children of George Thomas Rosser and Clara Ruth Johnson Rosser. Camilla married Mitchell Earl “Mick” Wansley on March 19, 1955, and moved to the Wansley family farm where she lived out the remainder of her 92 years. She worked as the assistant to architect James M. Hunt for over forty years.
Mrs. Wansley was a dedicated member of Bethlehem Methodist Church where she served as a faithful Sunday school teacher for many years. Her family was her most prized possession, and she was always nurturing and attentive to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family pastimes were reading, as well as working in her yard and caring for her flowers. An excellent cook, “Grandmama” loved cooking for her family.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard Earl “Rick” and Tonia Wansley; grandchildren: Amanda Wansley Brady and her husband Adam, Erin Wansley Slay and her husband Caleb, and Trey Wansley and his wife Shelby; great-grandchildren: Sawyer Brady, Silas Brady, Opal Slay, Wren Wansley, and Roy Wansley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Along with her parents and husband of 66 years, she is preceded in death by her son: Roger Anthony Wansley; brother, George Johnson Rosser; and sister, Hilda Rosser Herndon.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 9, from 10:00-10:45a.m. at Bethlehem Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00a.m. in the church sanctuary, officiated by the Rev. John Moore. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery following the service, with Trey Wansley, Adam Brady, Caleb Slay, Alan Herndon, Marvin Chancey, Mark McCall, Sawyer Brady, and Silas Brady honored as pallbearers.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Bethlehem Methodist Church, 1025 Welcome Church Road, Elberton, GA 30635.
