Candice Michelle Potts

Mrs. Candice Michelle Potts, 46, of Anniston, passed away August 23, 2021 at her home. An Anniston native, Candice was a loving, caring soul. She taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian Church, and then worked for many years as the Office Manager for Potts Marketing Group in Anniston. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and she served on the Board of Directors of Children's Services of Northeast Alabama. Candice had very discriminating taste in music, film, and literature. She loved everything from Langston Hughes and Joan Didion to Winnie the Pooh… from Leonard Cohen to The Band to fIREHOSE to Joni Mitchell to Mavis Staples…. from Alfred Hitchcock to John Hughes to Martin Scorsese. Candice had great taste. Candice enjoyed cooking, traveling, reading, and listening to music. She is already greatly missed. Candice is preceded in death by her grandparents, S.O. "Bud" Kemp and Mildred Gerline McComb Kemp, and M.P. Hicks and Myrtle Hicks; an aunt, Charlotte Ann Kemp Sellars; and brother, Kenneth Mark Hicks. She is survived by her husband, Thomas S. Potts, Jr.; mother, Gayle Kemp Hicks; father, Kenneth Hicks and his wife, Sarah; a brother, Jeff Hicks and his wife, Missy; niece, Sylvia Taylor Hicks; stepson, James Potts; step-grandson, Leland Potts; mother-in-law, Beatrice P. Woodruff; and sister-in-law, Marian Potts Foster. There will be a memorial gathering for the family. A Celebration of Life service at Grace Episcopal Church will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Children's Services of Northeast Alabama, Community Enabler Developer, or Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama.
