Captain Brian Covington Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 29, 2023.

Brian Monti Covington transitioned from Earth to his eternal resting place at his home in Doerun, Ga on June 26, 2023 at the age of 45. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Lillie Pearl Covington, his paternal grandparents, Ernest and Ida Snead, his aunts; Adrienne Covington, Cheryle McIntyre, Clementine Spivey and his father, Kenneth Snead.   Brian was born March 14, 1978 in Albany GA. He was joined in holy matrimony to Tykeria Tensley-Covington and this union three children were born. From a very young age, Brian knew he loved God and decided to devote his life to him. He began his Christian journey at Third Kiokee Church where he became the Son of the House and began to help others seek Christ and grow in Christ. Brian moved his membership from Third Kiokee to New Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a youth pastor. He went on to serve as an associate Pastor at New Season’s Church and continued his leadership journey Freedom Church of Albany where he served as a Minister and was head of security under the leadership of Pastor DeCarlo Marcus. He started a non-profit organization called Being Made through Christ created for “helping others love God, themselves and others.”   Brian attended school at Albany High School and went on to further his education at Albany State University where he earned his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Not only was Brian a servant inside of the church, but he was a servant outside of the church. His passion for helping others led him to become a Police Officer at the Albany Police Department in 2001. Brian worked several years in the patrol division, crime prevention division, and the gang unit. After leaving Albany Police Department, Brian was able to take his wisdom and knowledge to Albany State University where he served as “Captain Covington”. His passion for Albany State was indescribable, and he was determined to make the campus a safe place for all. Brian mentored several students and went from being know as “Captain Covington” to “Dad”. He kept his phone on at all times making himself available to all in need 24/7. Outside of working, Brian enjoyed being home with family, grilling, working out, reading and studying the word of God. He loved to buy Apple Products and referred to himself as the “Apple King”.   Brian was known for his infectious smile and his love for God. He always had a positive word for whatever you were going through. He made sure to call and check on everyone and to let them know whatever they needed. He had a heart full of love and grace.   Brian is survived by his wife, Tykeria Tensley-Covington, his mother, Sheila Mayweather, his mother in law, Shawanda Tensley, two brother in laws; Felix Wooden and Jayleen Wooden, his sister, LaTravias Snead-Thomas, his brothers; Kenneth Snead and Nicholas Snead, his four sons; Ahrion Covington, Derious Covington, Ashton Marcus and Brennon Covington, his six daughters; Ke’Aria Covington, Laja Covington, Tylynn Covington, Braylynn Covington, Tensley Covington, and Southern Covington, his grandson Ky’mir, and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
