When we research leaders(the highest technical position at Battelle) got together we bragged how many inventions we had. One researcher had 30, another had 50, another 70 patents, but when Carl's name came up, we shut up. Carl was a legend, truly a great inventor we all held in awe, who was by all accounts the best of us, loved by all technicians, researchers and research leaders.

To Karla and all of Carl's family, my sincere condolences for your loss. Carl was a colleague, mentor, father figure, trusted source of information and counsel for me during my time at Battelle. His wisdom was always delivered with his wonderful sense of humor. He was a man of integrity and a true gentleman. May he rest in well deserved peace.
