Carl Ray Base, 80, died January 16, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born November 23, 1944, in Hutchinson, to John and Ada (Van Deast) Base.
Carl graduated from Nickerson High School in 1963, and attended college for one year before he was drafted into the United States Army. He spent two years in France, Germany, and Italy before returning to Hutchinson.
On December 24, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Diana Rank, in Hutchinson and together grew their family with four children.
Carl worked 46 years as a machinist for Cessna/Eaton and was always tinkering around the house fixing bikes, tires, and just about anything he could get his hands on that might need to be repaired. He enjoyed watching western movies, eating a home-cooked meal and loved being a grandfather to his six grandchildren.
Carl is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Diana Base of South Hutchinson; son, Robert Base of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Erika Montoya (Randy), Bailey Base, Christopher Base, Andrea Base, Allie Base, and Morgan Base; and great-grandchildren, Kynlee and Gannon Montoya.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Christine Renee Anderson and husband Robert; sons, James Jay Base and Michael Ray Base; and siblings, Gloria Hostletter, John "Bud" Base, Barbara Smith, and Gary Base.
Private family inurnment will take place in the Abbyville Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice House, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
