James Bemis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elliott Mortuary & Crematory - Hutchinson on Feb. 3, 2026.
James Michael Bemis, 71, passed away January 29, 2026, at Welsey Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was born April 31, 1954, in Lyons, KS to Charles Edgar and Jessie Alberta (Roberts) Bemis.

At a young age, James decided he wanted to serve his country and joined the United States Air Force. During his time in the military, he achieved his GED, formed everlasting friendships with fellow airmen, and gained his mechanic skills through determination and hard work.

In his spare time, James enjoyed riding or working on motorcycles, hanging out in his garage drinking coffee or a few cold ones. At only 9 years old, James rode his first motorcycle, discovering his great love for Harleys. Those that knew James, know that he was very vocal about his political beliefs and his enthusiasm for Trump and his tremendous love for his country.

On June 30, 2006, he married Rebecca Sue Lam, in Newkirk, OK. They shared over 19 years of marriage.

James is survived by: his wife, Becky Bemis; sister, Bonnie Bemis; nephew, Bill (Jen) Wyatt; nieces, Connie (Tom) Kocher, Treva Kintigh, Diana Glaze, Darcie Vernon, Penny Caldwell and Shelley (Rocky) Hansen; stepchildren, Jay (Jessica) Bainum, and Janelle (Matt Bul) Cornelius; and grandchildren, Luke Bainum, Lilly Bainum, Aubry Bainum, Kalee Teter, and Kaden Williams.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Charles and Jessie; and his siblings, Hazel, Dixie, Gale, Richard, Lloyd and Paty.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson. Military Honors will be conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
