Obituary of Carl F. Behringer
Carl F. Behringer, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on August 11, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born on September 5, 1943 in Irvington to Karl and Emily Behringer (née Fundt), Carl grew up in Union where he attended Catholic school and developed the values of humility, generosity, and kindness that would define his life. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the early Vietnam era and was stationed in New Jersey, where he served honorably guarding missile silos.
Following his honorable discharge from military service, Carl attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where he earned his bachelor's degree in accounting. It was there in a biology class that he met the love of his life, Nedra (née Willette), a chance meeting that blossomed into a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter and mutual devotion. The couple married on November 22, 1970.
Carl was a man of quiet generosity, always ready to help those in need. He gave freely to charities and opened his heart, and often his home to others. His beloved shore house in Lavallette was a treasured gathering place for family and friends, and he gladly offered it to anyone who needed a place to rest, relax and make memories.
A man of many interests, Carl was the proud owner of a national award-winning 1964 Studebaker, a family heirloom that continues to be showcased at car shows to this day. He enjoyed playing the stock market, boating down the shore, and spending time on the water with his loved ones.
Carl will be remembered for his warmth, humility, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nedra Behringer; his son, Simon Behringer and his wife Jaime; his cherished grandchildren, Juliana, Isabelle, Victoria and Alexander; his sister, Mary Lou Brahm; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Carl Behringer lived a life marked by love, service and simple joys. His kindness touched everyone who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family friends and all those who were fortunate enough to call him their own.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation for Carl to be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park.
Interment with military honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Carl's memory to Holy Family Parish, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park, NJ 07932.
