Carl William Carter, age 79, of Albia, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, under the care of EveryStep Hospice.

Carl was born on January 15, 1947, in Des Moines, IA, to William Carl and Madelyn May (Palmer) Carter. He grew up attending school in Albia, graduating with the Class of 1966. On February 8, 1969, he was united in marriage to Connie Lahart at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Georgetown and to this union, 3 children- Tina, Bill, and Brian were born. Carl and Connie were blessed with 57 years of marriage prior to his passing.

Carl dedicated his working career as a laborer at John Deere Ottumwa Works, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 74. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his buddies as well as taking road trips. His true joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren and attending all of their events.

Carl is survived by his wife, Connie; 3 children: Tina (Steve) Beary and their children Tyler (Taylor Lock) Beary, Emily (Karter) Spieler, and Ashley Beary; Brian (Becca) Carter and their children Casey and Jess Carter; Bill (Kristine) Carter and their children, Jack, Caroline, Lola, and Alex Carter; 3 brothers, Gary (Bonnie) Carter, Darrell (Faith) Carter, and Mike Carter; and a sister-in-law, Donna Carter. Carl is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Madelyn; a brother, Steve Carter; and a grandson, Zachary Beary.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Carl's family present to greet family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia. Burial will follow services at Cuba Cemetery in Monroe County.

An open memorial has been established to the family.
