Carl Leon Dobson Jr., affectionately known as "C.J.," received his wings on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. His life began on December 27, 1989, the son of Carl L. Dobson Sr. and Dianna V. Palmer, of
Yorktown, Virginia.
C.J. attended York County Public Schools and Newport News Public Schools, with Richneck Elementary School being his favorite. At an early age, C.J. placed his faith and trust in the Lord, joining Strait Gate Temple of
Williamsburg, VA, where he was baptized and became a faithful member. Later in life, he joined Higher Way Hampton, where he served as a Deacon and a songbird in the choir. C.J. had a heart for service and was dedicated to feeding the homeless.
From a young age, C.J. loved working on toy cars, singing, dancing, cooking, and grilling. As he grew older, he worked at Old Mill Pancake House, KFC, CMA Ford, and became a driver for Curtis Construction.
C.J. had a natural gift for bringing people together. Wherever he went, he became the life of the party-always ready with a smile, a laugh, or a story that lifted the room. His presence was warm and infectious, and he had a way of making everyone feel welcome and included. Known for his kind heart, Carl loved helping others whenever he could. Whether offering support, encouragement, or simply his time, he gave freely and sincerely. He believed in showing up for the people he cared about and lived his life with generosity and compassion.
Carl will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his love of good times, and the deep connections he shared with those around him. His laughter, energy, and kindness leave a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us in body, Carl Leon Dobson Jr.'s spirit lives on through the memories, love, and joy he brought into our lives. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
He was preceded in death by his niece Cassandra Dobson, his grandmother Evelyn Dobson, his grandfather Austin Dobson Sr., and his aunts Julia Ann Brooks and Stephanie Dobson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mom Dianna Palmer; his dad Carl Dobson, Sr.; his sisters Victoria Palmer (Tuwana), Monique Dobson-Harris (Marqus), Carla Dobson, and Josephine Dobson; his brothers, Dickie Palmer and Antonio Jermaine Sr., his special friend Shima Martin; his close friends, Jarrett Jonigan and Floyd Cowles; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other family and friends.
